Scenario objective
Cycling modem power only when it is genuinely unresponsive can improve service availability at unattended sites. NetRelay makes this decision locally with Ping Watchdog monitoring for up to four IP addresses, so an internet connection or cloud service does not have to participate in the control loop.
Wiring and safety
Connect modem power through a switching arrangement suited to its voltage and current. The NetRelay relay rating of 250V/10A does not mean every load should be switched directly; inductive loads or devices with high inrush current may require a suitable contactor, protection, and assessment by a qualified electrician.
Avoiding false restarts
Use a consecutive-failure threshold instead of reacting to one failed ping. Select the target, retry interval, and relay-off duration for the site. Preventing another cycle until the modem has completed its startup period reduces the risk of a restart loop.
Commissioning check
Verify relay behavior without a connected load first, then perform a controlled outage test during a maintenance window. Record watchdog events, measure modem startup time, and document the manual recovery action to use if automation does not restore service.
